A process for producing acetic acid which comprises charging reactants methanol or dimethyl ether or methyl acetate or any mixture thereof, into a reactor containing a rhodium carbonylation catalyst; an alkyl iodide or alkyl bromide; and a hydrogenation catalyst and contacting said reactants with carbon monoside and hydrogen for the production.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de produire de l'acide acétique, ce procédé consistant tout d'abord à charger des dérivés réactifs de méthanol, ou d'éther méthylique, ou d'acétate de méthyle, ou un mélange de ceux-ci, dans un réacteur contenant 1) un catalyseur de carbonylation au rhodium, 2) un iodure alkyle ou un bromure alkyle, et 3) un catalyseur d'hydrogénation. Le procédé de cette invention consiste enfin à mettre ces dérivés réactifs en présence de monoxyde de carbone et d'hydrogène, afin de produire de l'acide acétique.
