ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing a magnetic recording element using a ferromagnetic metal fine powder produced by a dry reduction method is disclosed, the improvement which comprises washing the ferromagnetic metal fine powder with an aqueous solvent or an organic solvent having high polarity, and optionally contacting the powder with an aqueous solution of a surface active agent, before preparing a coating composition of the powder.
