The present invention relates to a process of preparing precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) in a low energy intensity reactor in such a manner that the amount of solids in the PCC product can be raised to 35% or more without performing a dewatering step. The process comprises performing in parallel and in two or more separate reaction vessel the steps of contacting calcium hydroxide with a gas comprising carbon dioxide to allow formation of calcium carbonate, and adding calcium oxide, lime or dry calcium hydroxide or a combination of any of the three to a part of the resulting mixture of calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate. The invention further provides a specialized reactor system as well as the use of this reactor system in the manufacture of PCC.

Cette invention a trait à un procédé permettant de préparer du carbonate de calcium précipité (CCP) dans un réacteur de faible énergie de telle manière que la quantité de solides dans le produit de CCP peut s'élever à 35 % ou plus sans exécuter d'étape de déshydratation. Le procédé comprend la réalisation simultanée et dans deux cuves réactionnelles séparées ou plus, des étapes consistant à mettre en contact un hydroxyde de calcium avec un gaz comprenant du dioxyde de carbone qui permet la formation de carbonate de calcium, et à ajouter de l'oxyde de calcium, de la chaux ou de l'hydroxyde de calcium sec ou une association de l'un quelconque des trois à une partie du mélange résultant d'hydroxyde de calcium et de carbonate de calcium. L'invention concerne par ailleurs un système de réacteur spécialisé, ainsi que l'utilisation de ce système de réacteur dans la fabrication du CCP.
