The present invention is directed to an improved process for the production of a water-absorbent resin by reversed phase suspension polymerization of a water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer. The process is conducted by subjecting an aqueous solution of a water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer to a reversed phase suspension polymerization reaction in a first stage. The polymerization is conducted in a petroleum hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a surfactant and/or polymeric protective colloid using a radical polymerization initiator optionally in the presence of a crosslinking agent, cooling the resulting slurry to precipitate the surfactant and/or polymeric protective colloid, and then repeating the polymerization by adding an aqueous solution of a water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer containing a radical polymerization initiator and optionally a crosslinking agent to the first polymerization reaction system to further carry out the reversed phase suspension polymerization reaction, at least, once.
La présente invention porte sur une méthode améliorée pour la production d'une résine absorbant l'eau par polymérisation en suspension à phase inversée d'un monomère éthyléniquement insaturé hydrosoluble. Le procédé est mis en oeuvre en soumettant, dans une première étape, une solution aqueuse d'un monomère éthyléniquement insaturé, hydrosoluble, à une réaction de polymérisation en suspension à phase inversée. La polymérisation est effectuée dans un solvant d'hydrocarbures pétroliers en présence d'un tensioactif et (ou) d'un collo1oïde polymérique protecteur, avec un radical initiateur de polymérisation et, facultativement, en présence d'un réticulant; on refroidit le coulis résultant pour précipiter le tensioactif et (ou) le colloïde polymérique protecteur, et on répète la polymérisation par ajout d'une solution aqueuse d'un monomère éthyléniquement insaturé, hydrosoluble, contenant un radical initiateur de polymérisation et, facultativement, un réticulant, au premier système de réaction de polymérisation, de façon à réitérer au moins une fois la réaction de polymérisation en suspension à phase inversée.
