PROCESS FOR PURIFYING CRYSTALLINE POTASSIUM CHLORIDE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A 97.5 or more weight percent pure crystalline potassium chloride product formed by crystallization from a solution rich in both sodium chloride and potassium chloride, the crystalline potassium chloride containing a minor contaminating amount of sodium chloride, is reduced in sodium chloride content by contacting the crystals with an aqueous leaching solution, wherein the solute is selected from the group consisting essentially of potassium chloride and the mixture of potassium chloride and sodium chloride, the leaching solution being saturated with respect to potassium chloride and, when present, unsaturated with respect to sodium chloride, for a time sufficient to reduce substantially the sodium chloride content in the crystalline potassium chloride. Subsequently, the crystal- line potassium chloride product having a reduced sodium chloride content is recovered from the leaching solution.
