Described is an economical process for the recovery of factor VIII from blood plasma or cryoprecipitate. In said process, an anion exchanger chromatography is conducted using a separating material based on carriers containing hydroxyl groups, the surfaces of which carriers have been coated with covalently bonded polymers, said polymers containing repeating units represented by formula (I) wherein R1, R' and R", Y and n are as defined in claim 1.
