A process for recovering caffeine adsorbed to activated carbon. ABSTRACT This invention relates to a process for recover- ing caffeine from laden activated carbon by treating the laden activated carbon with an organic acid. In order to achieve good extraction efficiencies, on the one hand and to avoid problems with the flash point, such as with acetic acid, on the other hand, the process according to the invention is characterized by treating the activated carbon with a mixture comprising at least 65% by weight of acetic acid and at least 2% by weight of citric acid.
