ABSTRACT A process for recovering lead and lead-compounds from scrap lead-acid accumulators, wherein the said accumulators are first fragmented, the acid is removed from the pieces, and the said pieces are separated, in further stages of the process, into pieces made of lead (terminal-posts, cell-connectors) lead com- pounds (lead oxide, lead sulphate) and other materials (mainly synthetic materials), characterized in that the pieces produced by the initial fragmentation are subjected, after being washed as sparingly as possible with preferably alkaline water, to crusher- drying and are then divided, in the dry state, into the aforesaid three categories.
