ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides a process for preparing a mixture of the optical isomers of a phenylalkylamine derivative of formula Image (I) wherein Z is a hydrogen or chlorine atom or a trifluoromethyl, trifluoro- methoxy or trifluoromethylthio radical, and R1 is a hydrogen atom or a straight or branched alkyl radical of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, or an acid addition salt thereof, by oxidising an isomer of the phenylalkylamine to the 1- phenylalkyl-2-propanone which is then condensed under reductive conditions with an amine of formula HNR1R2. These compounds exhibit anorexigenic activity.
