After precipitation of the coarse particles, the sludge is centrifuged to remove black particles and then divided by fractional straining into its fibre, filler, pigment and agglomerate components. The agglomerate component is shear-treated and again fractionated, while the fibres, fillers and pigments, following further treatment if necessary, are fed to their points of re-use.
