20337-418 ABSTRACT A process for the computer-controlled recovery of sorted plastic fractions from a mixture of packaging materials is described. Various screening, magnetic and ballistic separation steps are carried out. Then the fragments remaining are transported through the remaining process stages individually and in strict sequence one after the other. The sizes of the individual fragments of the isolated medium fraction are each identified by the computer control system by opto-electronic measurement. The type of material of each individual fragment is identified during transportation by means of spectral analysis. The results of this spectral analysis are input into the computer control system. Depending on the results of spectral analysis, a removal system is triggered by the computer control system; this removal system moves each part into an appropriate collection system with other fragments of the same sort.
