A B S T R A C T A process for the recovery of vanadium from a deactivated catalyst, either or not in combination with regeneration of the catalyst, in which process a catalyst which has become deactivated in the catalytic treatment of a vanadium-containing hydro- carbon oil with hydrogen, is extracted with an aqueous solution of a mineral acid followed by isolation of vanadium from the vanadium-containing solution thus obtained.
