Abstract of the disclosure: Process for reducing the content of primary and secondary amine in a tertiary amine A process is described for reducing the content of primary and secondary amine in a tertiary amine in which the tertiary amine to be treated is brought into contact with an organic anhydride until the reduction sought in the content of primary and secondary amine is achieved. Bringing the compounds into contact as mentioned, which as a rule is carried out at a temperature of 20 to 200°C, results in the formation, from the primary amine and the secondary amine, which is particularly undesirable, of the compounds acid and/or acid amide. After removal of these compounds, which are comparatively harmless, a completely pure tertiary amine is present.
