The present invention provides for a process for refining animal or vegetable oil. Unprocessed oil is made up of triglycerides and other compounds such as fatty acids, mono and diglycerides formed by esterification of one or two hydroxy groups of glycerol with an organic acid, phosphoglycerides which contain at least one atom of phosphorus, molecules coming from secondary metabolisms such as steroids, tocopherols, carotenes, and sugars. The process of the present invention comprises treating the unprocessed oil with absorbent silica. The silica absorbs those compounds other than the triglycerides from the oil and absorbs little or no triglycerides. The silica is separated from the oil to produce a refined oil. L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de raffiner de l'huile animale ou végétale. L'huile non traitée est constituée de triglycérides et d'autres composés tels que des acides gras, des mono et diglycérides formés par estérification d'un ou deux groupe(s) hydroxy de glycérol à l'aide d'un acide organique, de phosphoglycérides contenant au moins un atome de phosphore, de molécules provenant de métabolismes secondaires tels que des stéroïdes, des tocophérols, des carotènes, et des sucres. Ledit procédé consiste à traiter de l'huile non traitée à l'aide de silice absorbante. La silice absorbe les composés autres que les triglycérides de l'huile et n'absorbe pas ou absorbe peu les triglycérides. La silice est séparée de l'huile afin de produire de l'huile raffinée. On peut ensuite utiliser la silice comme additif pour nourrir les animaux.
