ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A regeneration of mixed anion and cation exchange resins is carried out by back-washing the mixed anion and cation exchange resins to separate them as an upper layer, a middle layer and a lower layer, regenerating respectively the upper layer and the lower layer and mixing the separated middle layer of the mixed resins in a step before the back- washing step in the next or following regeneration process.
