The inner pressure of a tool is measured during a cycle of a cyclically working machine as a function of time and/or the distance covered by conveyor means. The tool inner pressure is then differentiated as a function of time or distance covered, and the evaluation results are checked for deviations from the monotonous curve. If that is the case, the subsequent compression time or the switching moment are changed until the tool inner pressure curve becomes a monotonous curve.
