ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for simultaneous separation of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide from a mixed gas stream comprising contacting the gas stream with a liquid nitrile absorbent having the general formula R-CN wherein R is selected from alkyl radicals having from one to five carbon atoms and alkoxyalkyl radicals having from two to ten carbon atoms, maintaining the temperature of the gas stream during separation at a temperature below the decomposition tempera- ture of the nitrile absorbent and removing the nitrile absorbent, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide mixture from contact with the mixed gas stream.
