ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a process for removal of at least one organic pollutant such as phenol from an aqueous waste stream by passing said stream through a fixed bed reactor containing a biologically active biomass comprising a plurality of biologically active particles comprised of a substrate having an absorbent for at least one of said pollutants and aerobic microorganism capable of metabolizing at least one of said pollutants on the surface hereof.
