ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Mineral impurities can be effectively removed from coal by introducing oil droplets into an aqueous slurry of pulverized coal to attach pure coal, which is lipophilic, to the surface of the oil droplets, to float it along with the oil droplets utilizing their buoyancy, and on the other hand, to leave mineral impurities, which are hydrophilic, in the aqueous slurry.
