-41- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Specific toxicants are selectively removed from aqueous waste streams associated with the production of petroleum and petroleum products by contacting such aqueous waste streams with a non-ionic macroreticular polymeric resin having a low to intermediate surface polarity. The toxicants are a group of structurally-related organic molecules containing at least one carboxylic acid group and having a molecular weight in the range of about 200 to about 400. These molecules are toxic to certain indicator species of fish at concentrations of less than 10 parts per billion.
On extrait sélectivement des substances toxiques spécifiques de flux de déchets aqueux associés à la production de pétrole et de produits dérivés du pétrole en mettant lesdits flux en contact avec une résine polymère macroréticulaire non ionique présentant une faible polarité de surface intermédiaire. Lesdites substances toxiques sont un groupe de molécules organiques structurellement associées les unes aux autres contenant au moins un groupe acide carboxylique et présentant une masse moléculaire de 200 à 400. Ces molécules sont toxiques pour certaines espèces indicatrices de poisson à des concentrations inférieures à 10 ppb.
