ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In reactions catalyzed with a sulfonic acid-type cation exchange resin such as n reaction of obtaining an ether from an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon and an alcohol, a reaction of obtaining an alcohol by hydration of an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon, or a reaction of obtaining a polyhydric alcohol ether from an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon and a polyhydric alcohol, the reaction produce contaminated by free sulfonic acid or sulfuric acid ascribable to the catalyst used in the reaction is contacted with hydrotalcite thereby to remove the free sulfonic acid or sulfuric acid from it.
