A process is described for minimizing resin waste in the impregnation of a porous web with a thermosettable resin. The process involves the use of resin application means comprising a rotatable roller (4) on which is deposited a liquid-form thermosettable resin; passing a fibrous substrate (2) in countercurrent contact with the thermosettable resin on the rotating roller so as to transfer the thermosettable resin to the fibrous substrate (2), removing any untransferred resin from the rotating roller (4) and depositing the removed resin onto the fibrous substrate prior to contact thereof with the rotating roller; and passing the resin-containing fibrous web to a heating zone to partially cure the resin. The process is particularly suited for application of a solventless resin formulation to a glass web in the preparation of a prepreg for an electrical laminate.
Ce procédé est destiné à minimiser la perte de résine lors de l'imprégnation d'une âme poreuse avec une résine thermodurcissable. Ce procédé comporte l'utilisation de moyens d'application de résine comprenant un rouleau rotatif (4) sur lequel on a déposé une résine thermodurcissable sous forme liquide, et il consiste à faire passer un substrat fibreux (2) en contact à contre-courant avec la résine thermodurcissable située sur le rouleau rotatif afin de transférer cette résine sur le substrat fibreux (2), puis à enlever toute résine non transférée du rouleau rotatif (4) afin de la déposer sur ledit substrat avant que celui-ci n'entre en contact avec le rouleau rotatif, et enfin à faire passer l'âme fibreuse contenant la résine dans une zone chauffante afin de cuire partiellement la résine. Ce procédé est particulièrement approprié à l'application d'une formulation de résine dépourvue de solvant sur une âme en verre dans la préparation d'un support préimprégné destiné à un stratifié électrique.
