Proposed is a process for separating enantiomers from a racemic mixture by countercurrent extraction using at least two liquids of mutually differing chiralities, said liquids being wholly miscible and separated from each other by a phase with which they are immiscible. The separating, im- miscible phase may be incorporated into a solid carrier which may be po- rous or not and preferably is in the form of a hollow fibre. The liquids of mutually differing chiralities may be chirally active as such or, alternatively,be obtained by the incorporation of a chiral adjuvant into at least one of the extracting liquids.
