Abstract Carbonate material in or around a well communicating with a subterranean reservoir is acidised slowly by injecting an aqueous solution of a chlorocarboxylic acid salt so that the rate of the acidization is limited to the rate at which an acid is formed by the hydrolyzing of the chlorocarboxylate ions.
