The present invention is concerned with a process for the preparation of small particles through precipitation. More particularly, the present invention relates to such a process which employs a fluid solution comprising a solvent and solute to be precipitated and a non-gaseous antisolvent, said solvent being soluble in or miscible with the antisolvent and said solute being substantially insoluble in the antisolvent, wherein the process comprises the successive steps of: a. feeding a stream of the fluid solution and a stream of the antisolvent into a mixing zone (5) where both streams are thoroughly mixed to achieve a condition of super saturation whilst ensuring that hardly any nucleation occurs during the mixing; b. feeding the resulting mixture of the fluid solution and the antisolvent into a nucleation zone (6) allowing nucleation to commence; c. allowing the nuclei formed in the nucleation zone the grow to particles with a volume weighted average diameter of no more than 50 ~m, preferably of no more than 7 ~m. d. collecting the particles and separating them from the antisolvent.
L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de petites particules par précipitation. Elle concerne, plus particulièrement, un tel procédé utilisant une solution fluide comprenant un solvant et un soluté à précipiter et un non solvant non gazeux, ce solvant étant soluble dans ou miscible avec le non solvant et le soluté étant sensiblement insoluble dans le non solvant, le procédé consistant (a) à envoyer un courant de solution fluide et un courant de non solvant dans une zone de mélange (5) dans laquelle les deux courants sont fortement mélangés afin de réaliser une condition de supersaturation tout en s'assurant qu'aucune nucléation se produise durant ce mélange, (b) à envoyer le mélange de solution fluide et de non solvant dans une zone de nucléation (6), permettant à la nucléation de démarrer, (c) à permettre aux noyaux formés dans la zone de nucléation de grossir pour former des particules jusqu'à un diamètre moyen pondéré en volume de 50 ?m au plus, de préférence au plus de 7 ?m. et (d) à collecter les particules et à les séparer du non solvant.
