ABREGE DESCRIPTIF La présente invention concerne des perfectionnements aux procédés de traitement sous atmosphère contrôlée. On utilise une atmosphère formée d'un gaz porteur constitué par ou contenant de l'azote industriellement pur et d'un gaz ac- tif constitué par un hydrocarbure tel que CH4, C4H10, C3H8, C2H4, C2H2, C2H6 et par de l'oxyde de carbone introduit sous forme de gaz pur ou obtenu par décomposition du méthanol, le traitement étant effectué entre 750° et 1150°C. L'invention s'applique au chauffage avant trempe, au recuit, à la carbu- ration et à la carbonitruration des aciers. On obtient ainsi une carburation ou une carbonitruration homogène et sans dépôt de suies quelle que soit la configuration des pièces traitées.
