C-07-21-1004 PROCESS FOR SYNTHESIS GAS MIXTURES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Synthesis gas mixtures of closely controlled compo- sition can be prepared by a process wherein a selectively permeable gas is separated by means of a plurality of semi- permeable hollow fiber membranes and concentrated in the bores of such hollow fiber membranes, a gas mixture dimin- ished in such selectively permeable gas is withdrawn as permeant from the outer surfaces of such hollow fiber membranes, and the composition of such permeant gas stream is controlled by adjusting the differential in pressure between the feed gas mixture and the permeated stream. A synthesis gas mixture suitable for use as an OXO alcohol synthesis gas is produced by the process wherein a feed gas mixture comprising at least hydrogen and carbon monoxide is provided. There is also provided a method of controlling gas membranes of at least two differentially permeable gases treated by axial flow through a separation vessel containing a bundle of semipermeable hollow fiber membranes selectively permeable to at least one of such gases by adjusting the differential in pressure between the gas mixture reed and the permeated gas stream in response to changes in the composition of the permeant gas stream effluent.
