The invention concerns the objective testing of a patient's hearing, i.e. without the need for cooperation from the patient, making use of the acoustically evoked potential (AEP). The two fields of application of the method include hearing-threshold determination and audition screening. The invention calls for testing to be carried out either only on a spectral basis or on both a spectral and a time basis. Since with AEP the signal-to-noise ratio in an individual sweep in the neighbourhood of the threshold is extremely low, statistical testing is not carried out on the basis of individual sweeps, but instead a sufficient number of sweeps (preferably 100) is averaged to give averaged potentials from which the spectra are determined.
L'invention concerne le domaine de la détermination objective, c'est-à-dire indépendante de la collaboration du patient, de l'acuité auditive, au moyen des potentiels acoustiquement évoqués (PAE). Les deux domaines d'application du procédé sont la détermination du seuil d'audition et l'audiométrie de dépistage. Selon l'invention, on procède à des examens uniquement dans le domaine spectral ou dans les domaines spectral et temporel. Etant donné que le rapport signal-bruit pendant les passages individuels à proximité du seuil d'audition est extrêmement défavorable dans le cas des potentiels précoces acoustiquement évoqués, l'examen statistique ne se fonde pas sur les passages individuels, mais la moyenne d'un nombre suffisant de passages (de préférence 100) est déterminée au préalable pour donner des potentiels moyens partiels (PMP). Les spectres sont calculés sur la base de ces potentiels moyens partiels. Ce procédé d'examen statistique se fonde sur le test de notation de points uniformes dans q échantillons, test peu connu et jamais utilisé auparavant dans le contexte du dépistage automatique des potentiels acoustiquement évoqués. Ce test, dans la forme qu'il prend dans les documents connus, n'est utile que pour tester le spectre des phases. L'information contenue dans le spectre d'amplitudes reste inutilisée. L'invention propose donc de modifier le test de sorte que les informations sur l'amplitude soient également prises en considération. La sensibilité de ce test lors du dépistage de potentiels précoces acoustiquement évoqués à proximité du seuil d'audition, qui est déjà très bonne, est encore sensiblement améliorée grâce à cette modification.
