PROCESS FOR THE CATALYTIC HYDROGENATION OF NITROBENZENE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a process for the catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline in the gas phase at elevated temperature in the presence of a multi-component supported catalyst which contains a noble metal and one or more transition metals of the Groups IVa, Va or VIa of the Periodic Table of the Elements (Mendeleev), the said metals being in the form of the elements or in the form of a compound, whereby the support is pre-treated with a base, then dried and ther impregnated with the noble metal and the transition metal in a manner which is in itself known.
