In the chain extension of a low molecular weight .alpha.,.omega.-dihydroxypoly (diorgano- siloxane) wherein the siloxane is contacted with a chain extension catalyst, theimprovement wherein said catalyst comprises at least one phosphoric acid ester, orthophosphoric acid, or a salt thereof. The reaction proceeds rapidly and, whencomplete, the catalyst can easily be deactivated to prevent degradation and/or re- arrangement.
