- 1 - ABSTRACT Process for the chlorination of ores The fluidised bed chlorination or oxidic ores having a surface area of at least 3.5m2/g such as ilmenite or bauxite may be accomplished at temperatures below 772°C in the presence of a coke derived from a non-caking or weakly caking coal which has been heated in the substantial absence or oxygen until its surface area is at least 3m2/g. The invention provides an alternative to active carbon.
