A process for the combined synthesis of betaine and choline chloride from monochloroacetic acid, trimethylamine and ethylene oxide by first reacting trimethylamine with monochloroacetic acid, and then reacting ethylene oxide with the reaction product from the previous step.

Ce procédé, qui sert à la synthèse combinée de chlorure de choline et de bétaïne à partir d'acides monochloroacétiques, de triméthylamine et d'oxyde d'éthylène, consiste d'abord à faire réagir la triméthylamine avec l'acide monochloroacétique, et à faire réagir ensuite l'oxyde d'éthylène avec le produit de réaction obtenu à l'étape précédente.
