The fermentation suspension is exposed to the action of an electric current at 20 to 100°C. The current density amounts up to 10mA/cm2, and the frequency of the current is in the range from 0 to 2000 Hz. Direct current is used preferably. The process may be per- formed discontinuously in a trough cell or continuously in a flow cell.
