ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A process for the continuous casting of steel, parti- cularly for forming billets,in which process a multi-phase mixture consisting of liquid inert gas and of a particulate additive is passed into an oscillating continuous-casting mould above the sur- face of the molten metal therein. The process is characterized in that, during casting, there is added a multi-phase mixture consist- ing of inert gas together with casting powder in a quantity such that the thickness of the layer of multi-phase mixture above the surface of the molten metal is maintained at a value lower than the length of stroke of the mould.
