A process is disclosed for converting biomass to fuels and/or valuable chemicals. The process comprises the steps of a) activating biomass to make it more susceptible to conversion; c) partially converting the biomass to a solubilized material; and d) subjecting the unconverted biomass to a second conversion step. The process optionally comprises a step b) of adding a solvent to the activated biomass. In a preferred embodiment the solubilized biomass obtained in step c) is removed before the unconverted biomass is subjected to step d).
L'invention concerne un procédé de conversion de biomasse en combustibles et/ou en produits chimiques de valeur. Ce procédé comprend les étapes suivantes qui consistent : a) à activer la biomasse afin de la rendre plus sensible à la conversion; c) à convertir partiellement la biomasse en matière solubilisée; et d) à soumettre la biomasse non convertie à une deuxième étape de conversion. Le procédé de l'invention comprend éventuellement une étape b) qui consiste à ajouter un solvant à la biomasse activée. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré de l'invention, la biomasse solubilisée obtenue dans l'étape c) est extraite avant que la biomasse non convertie ne soit soumise à l'étape d).
