ABSTRACT A process for preparing a dense, consolidated body from a preform. The process requires compressing the preform in a forging press in an isostatic die assembly. The assembly includes an open top, ceramic- containing shell and a pressure-transmitting medium wherein the preform is placed in the shell and surrounded by the medium. The assembly and, hence, the preform are compressed under such conditions of temperature, time and pressure that a dense, consolidated body of desired shape is formed. The process then requires recovering the body by separating the body from the fluid pressure-transmitting medium. 35,124-F
