ABSTRACT A process is disclosed for the recovery of product oil, gas, and coke by low-temperature carbonization at a temperature of 450 to 850°C from residues that contain hydrocarbons, in a fixed or rotary low-temperature carbonization drum. A preheater is connected in series with the drum direct heating of the charge ingredients by means of reheated low-temperature carbonization gas which is fed into the circuit. Condensation takes place in two stages. Solids are separated together with the low- temperature carbonization fractions separated in the first condensation stage. Quenching is done in the first condensation stage, which is integrated into the upstream end of the low-temperature carbonization drum, using a cooled solids-containing low-temperature carbonization oil fraction. Simultaneously, the outlet for removal of volatile components of the low-temperature carbonization process, which outlet is positioned at the upstream end and in the base region of the low-temperature carbonization drum, is continuously flushed with the solids-containing low-temperature carbonization oil fraction. The volatile and liquid components are removed together.
