(57) Abstract Disclosed is a method for the separation by multi-stage extraction of 2-alkylthio-5-phenylpyrimidines of general formula (I) in which R1 is H or an alkyl group with 1 to 15 C-atoms, X is an oxygen atom or a single bond and R2 is an alkyl with 1 to 15 C-atoms, using two organic solvents which give two immiscible phases. The method has the advantage that the phenyl pyrimidines are obtained from the reaction mixture at a high level of purity even on a commercial scale.
