Le procédé est conduit en phase liquide, en présence d'un catalyseur à base de nickel de Raney, en milieu basique initialement non ammoniacal ; il est caractérisé an ce que la réaction d'hydrogénation est conduite à une température comprise entre 40 et 150°C, sous une pression totale inférieure à 40 bars, dans un milieu réactionnel renfermant au maximum 10 % en poids d'eau, la concentration du méthyl-2 glutaronitrile dans le milieu réactionnel étant la plus faible possible.
