ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The disclosure describes a process for the granulation of the precipitation products formed from ammonium compounds by substitution with alkaline-earth compounds. The solution for treatment and an alkaline-earth compound, preferably milk of lime or lime water, which is present in aqueous solution, are introduced into the bottom section of a reaction chamber, and are mixed intimately therein. The solutions are mixed immediately on or after entry into the reaction chamber, and the alkaline- earth compound precipitation products are withdrawn in the form of a hard granulate difficultly soluble in water from the reaction chamber. The disclosure also describes an apparatus for performing the process. It is characterized by a reaction chamber consisting of a cylindrical fluidizing chamber followed at the top by a conically widened portion and pipes for sup- plying a reaction liquid leading into the fluidizing chamber. The top section of the reaction chamber is provided with a spigot for withdrawal of the treated liquid and the middle and/or bottom of the reaction chamber is provided with a spigot for withdrawing the granulates.
