ABSTRACT Natural gas is liquefied by cooling it under pressure in stages comprising cooling a natural gas stream containing some nitrogen by passing it in heat-exchange relationship with at least one refrigerant circulating in at least one circuit, so that the natural gas liquefies; passing the liquefied natural gas to a nitrogen stripper; separating nitrogen from the liquefied natural gas, removing a gas mixture comprising at least nitrogen and methane from the top of the nitrogen stripper, and removing liquefied natural gas from the nitrogen stripper as a product.
