ABSTRACT Natural gas is liquefied by cooling it under pressure in stages, comprising passing a natural gas stream in heat- exchange relationship with at least one refrigerant circulating in at least one circuit wherein the at least one refrigerant is a mixed refrigerant and using at least one mixed refrigerant to produce the cooling by allowing the mixed refrigerant to evaporate only partly.
