ABSTRACT A process for the manufacture of a floor covering having an arbitrarily selected surface pattern of contrasting colours from a preform of cautchouc with contrastingly coloured zones which is transformed into a blank with relief like protrusions, hardened by vulcanization and processed by cutting in the area of the protrusions only. To generate the zones, the cautchouc is mixed with 10 percent by weight of contrastingly coloured particles, which are substantially free of plane surfaces and are made of at least partly vulcanized rubber. The blank is processed such that particles contained in the top end of the protrusions are cut. PAT 13678-1
