Abstract Process for the manufacture of concentrated formulations which are in the form of free-flowing, low-dust powders or granules and are easily dispersible in aqueous and/or organic media, starting from active ingredients which are sparingly soluble or insoluble in water The active ingredients, for example pigments, dye- stuffs, dyestuff intermediates, optical brighteners, add- itives for plastics, textile auxiliaries, insecticides, herbicides, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, are comminuted mechanically and/or chemically in an aqueous medium in the presence of a grinding auxiliary until a mean particle size of less than 5 µm has been reached. The grinding aux- iliary is a salt, present in the dissolved form, of an acid resin The mechanical comminution may be effected by, for example, wet grinding by means of sand, balls or mills Chemical comminution may be effected by, for example, re- precipitation. During or after the comminution, at least one organic solvent which has a limited solubility of at least 1% in the aqueous medium, for example in pure or electrolyte-containing water, and which forms a two-phase system with the aqueous medium, is added. The resulting two-phase system is treated with at least one sparingly water-soluble or insoluble, high molecular carrier, whilst undergoing turbulent mixing. The volume of the organ- ic phase, which now contains the carrier or carriers and active ingredient or ingredients, is then reduced, by adding further water, to the point that the resulting particles of the formulation can easily be separated off. Finally, the particles are separated off, rinsed with water and dried if appropriate.
