PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF FATTY ACID NITRILES AND GLYCEROL FROM GLYCERIDES, ESPECIALLY FROM NATURAL FATS AND OILS Abstract of the disclosure: Glycerol and aliphatic nitriles of the formula R1,(R2,R3)-CN, wherein R1, R2 and R3 are aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals or mono hydroxy substituted hydrocarbon radicals having from 3 to 23 C atoms are simultaneously produced by treating liquid glycerides with gaseous ammonia at a rate of at least 200 liters of ammonia per kilogram of glyceride an hour at temperatures of from 220 to 300°C in the presence of catalysts and subjecting the product mixture to a phase separation into a nitrile phase and a glycerol water phase.
