A B S T R A C T o f t h e D I S C L O S U R E The invention relates to an improved process for the manufacture of methylamines from ammonia and methanol at elevated temperature and optionally under pressure. The new feature of the invention consists in the selection of a cheap catalyst i.e. an acid activated montmorillonite, whereby high conversions of methanol, excellent yields of the amines and a good selectivity to dimethylamine are obtained.
