ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The present invention is directed to process for the manufacture of N- [ 3,4-Dimethylphenyl] -N,D- ribamine of the formula (V) Image (V) in which a salt of D-ribonic acid is catalytically hydro- genated in an organic solvent in the presence of 3,4-dimethyl- aniline, 3,4-dimethylnitrobenzene or a salt of 3,4-dimethyl- aniline and a strong acid. The amine thus obtained is used as an intermediate in the preparation of vitamin B2.
