A process whereby N-phosphonomethylglycine (glyphosate) or its salts is manufactured by: 1) forming N-phosphonomethylglycinonitrile by reacting aminomethylphosphonic acid, an alkali metal cyanide and formaldehyde in aqueous solution at a pH in the range from 10 to 13 (and preferably from 11 to 11.5) whilst adding mineral acid at a rate sufficient to maintain the pH within the desired range, and thereafter 2) hydrolysing the N- phosphonomethylglycinonitrile product of Stage 1) to form a salt of N-phosphonomethylglycine and optionally 3) neutralising the salt of N- phosphonomethylglycine to form N-phosphonomethylglycine.
Procédé de fabrication de la N-phosphonométhylglycine (glyphosate) ou de ses sels, qui comprend les étapes suivantes: 1) formation de N-phosphonométhylglycinonitrile en faisant réagir de l'acide aminométhylphosphonique, du cyanure de métal alcalin et du formaldéhyde dans une solution aqueuse au pH s'échelonnant de 10 à 13 (et de préférence de 11 à 11,5) tout en ajoutant suffisamment d'acide inorganique pour maintenir le pH au niveau voulu; 2) hydrolyse du produit de N-phosphonométhylglycinonitrile obtenu en phase 1) pour former le sel de N-phosphonométhylglycine; et éventuellement 3) neutralisation du sel de N-phosphonométhylglycine pour former la N-phosphonométhylglycine.
