PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF OCTAFLUOROPROPANE Abstract of the disclosure: Octafluoropropane, C3F8, is prepared by a two-step process. In the first step hexafluoropropene is reacted with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a chromium oxyfluoride catalyst. The 2H-heptafluoropropane obtained is reacted with fluorine in the presence of a catalyst which contains a subgroup ele- ment of the Periodic System as free metal or as fluoride. Octa- fluoropropane is isolated from the resulting gas mixture. Hydrogen fluoride also obtained may be recycled to the first reaction step.
