Abstract The invention relates to a process and a facility for the operation of a single-color or multi-color printing facility. A first, uniformly designed, idle time occasio- ning movable machine group (1a; 27) of at least one machine unit is used substantially constantly for printing opera- tion. It interacts along a congruent separating line (S), common to all colors, with a second, idle time occasioning machine group (2a; 2b) of the machine unit, which, for a new run, is exchanged for a further idle time occasioning machine group (2c). The stationary machine groups (1a; 27) can be designed differently for the passage of divided or continuous pringing material. The separating line runs between plate cylinders of the movable machine group (2a; 2b) and rubber blanket cylinders (29) of the stationary machine group (27), which can be components of a rotary sheet-fed or reel-fed printing press. The stationary ma- chine groups (1a; 27) are connected by a transport device (18) to a turning device (17) for receiving the movable machine groups. This makes a substantially continuous operation possible for the printing of finite or continuous printing material (Fig.4).
